Relationship counseling is the process of helping to recognize, manage or reconcile troublesome differences and repeating patterns of behavior between people.

Individual therapy (sometimes called “psychotherapy” or “counseling”) is a process through which patients work one-on-one with a trained therapist—in a safe, caring, and confidential environment—to explore feelings, beliefs and behaviors, work through aspects of their lives that they would like to change, better understand themselves and others, set personal goals and work toward desired change.

Your life is changing, just like your body. Your mood is affected by hormonal changes. You may be having new, unexpected experiences, too. You may be facing added responsibilities at home, tougher grading policies in school and your friends may be changing.

You're in the process of developing new skills, behaviors and views, as you approach adulthood.

As you grow older you will need strong skills to manage the emotional challenges you will face.

As a teenager, you may be handling lots of mood-influenced emotional highs and lows. One minute you might feel great, the next you feel sad and tearful. This kind of shift in your mood is expected as you grow and develop.

Improved emotional management skills take time to develop. We can help you begin to establish a strong framework from which to build a more hopeful future.

Couple's therapy (or relationship therapy) is a subset of relationship counseling. It may differ from other forms of relationship counseling.

Short term counseling may be between one and three sessions, whereas long term couples therapy may be between twelve and twenty four sessions. In addition, counseling tends to be more 'here and now' and new coping strategies are outcomes we hope to achieve.

Marriage counseling or marital therapy can refer to either or some combination of the above. The methods may differ in other ways as well, but the differences may indicate more about the counselor's / therapist's way of working than the title given to their process.

Most of us have some sort of relationship with other people. Unless you are a castaway on an island, you interact with people every day. Relationships with parents, friends, and significant others (like a boyfriend or girlfriend) can be rewarding and tough to navagate.

As a teenager, you may be handling lots of mood-influenced emotional highs and lows. One minute you might feel great, the next you feel sad and tearful. This kind of shift in your mood is expected as you grow and develop.

Corley Counseling accepts most commercial insurance
plans, standard Medicaid and Medicaid managed care

Your first step is to call us at 502.381.5617 to schedule
your initial appointment. You will be asked to provide some initial information over the telephone to help us evaluate if ourclinic is your best treatment option. You may then be scheduled for an initial evaluation session which provides an opportunity for you to build rapport with the therapist and provide him/her with some background about yourself and the reasons you are seeking counseling. In addition, the therapist will be able to answer your questions regarding services, fees, confidentiality and what to expect in therapy.

We are interested in developing a collaborative relationship with you in which we try to decide together what kind of treatment would be best for you. However, not everyone will be referred for continuing therapy at the clinic. We make decisions, along with your input, on what we believe will be best for you.

At the end of that first session, if we decide that it is in your best interest to move forward working with the assigned therapist, you will decide on a mutually-agreeable time slot for your therapy sessions (typically, the client and therapist will meet once a week, and each session will last approximately one hour). At your second appointment, you will begin working with your therapist to set goals for your therapy experience and then begin working together toward achieving them.

If you would like to make a referral or if you have a question, you can use the information below. All information provided is delivered to a secure email. Please remember to provide us with the best day and time to call, and we will be happy to accommodate your requests.
YOUR GOALS ARE OUR GOALS. Goals are essential to emotional improvement. Brett will help uncover your goals and provide care that does not result in your dependence on therapy to continue your achievements. Instead he will help you build your skills for self-efficacy and self-determination. Emphasis will be placed on skill- building and independence.

Brett uses an educational model for treatment delivery. He will help by teaching you skills that address the challenging emotional issues you now face (and will likely face as you grow and develop), when your counseling is ended. Usually you can plan on 6-10 sessions. You are encouraged, however, to check in from time to time, if you want to continue your training in emotional health management.

If you have questions, please always feel free to ask them. It is our hope at Corley Counseling to help make your time with us a rewarding, helpful and memorable experience.

You are a valued person, and we are never unaware of that. Your comments, suggestions and observations are extremely important to us and those who will come after you.
